Description of Work

Murdoch Developmental Center is a state residential facility for
individuals with developmental disabilities located near the Research
Triangle area. Murdoch is a caring community where professionals work
with people of various ages, cognitive, and functional abilities.
This position is in Alpine Cottage which is a 30 bed residential
cottage that serves medically fragile individuals ranging in age from
21 81 years and require 24 hour nursing care. Work schedule : 10:45pm-
6:45am with rotating weekends and occasional schedule adjustment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to independently administer medications and treatment
following the 6 rights. Ability to administer respiratory treatment
via nebulizer and provide suction; successfully complete DHHS Med Exam,
be certified in CPR, First Aid, And NCI. Skill in preparation and
admin. of medication, recognizing proper dosage, effects, and
contraindications. Skill in assessing for signs/symptoms of illness
and injury. Ability to establish and maintain eff. working
relationships. Ability to understand, interpret, and relate oral and
written instructions according to individualized plan of care.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and prioritize assigned duties. Ability
to remain calm and function efficiently in emergency/stressful
situations. Ability to prepare and maintain records, charts, and
reports. Ability to communicate regarding health related issues.
Ability to communicate with supervisor any issues related to personnel
and health care delivery.

Training and Experience Requirements

License to practice as a Pratical Nurse in the State of North Carolina.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, you would be involved in the treatment of patients/residents. You would administer medications and injections; perform tube feedings; hang IVs; collect blood samples if certified for venipuncture; provide colostomy care; observe patients and report changes in their condition; take and record temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure; obtain specimens for analysis and perform other medical procedures as ordered by a physician.
