- Goodnight Dune Geeky Bedtime Books - 2011-03-16 16:00:32-04
Narrating bedtime stories for kids and maybe even some adults is a great way to put them to sleep and on that note, here are some geeky bedtime books you can check out. They are the Goodnight Dune bedtime books, written and released by Julia Yu. The book incorporates a classic bedtime story, Good Night Moon by Margaret Wise Brown and Frank Herbet's science fiction novel-turned-movie Dune. Seems like an odd mix but if they can indeed do the trick of putting kids to sleep, who would complain? - Sleep Disorders Affecting Singaporeans too - 2011-03-18 14:58:58-04
It is a fact that a large chunk of the population on earth today suffer from sleep disorders but today we focus on an Asian country in Singapore. Apparently all the attention right now is on World Sleep Day and for their part, about 15% of Singaporeans are reportedly affected by sleep disorders. Sleep disorders caused by the same factors like large tongues or extra tissues which collapse and block the airways of a person have been just some of the identified things associated with the said sleep disorder. About 25 patients suffering from moderate to severe OSA are diagnosed each month at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. Experts recommend that patients use Continuous Positive Airway Pressure, a machine that gently blows air into one’s throat with the help of a mask. - Flightsleep for the Wary Traveler - 2011-03-19 15:11:51-04
Travelers have their problems as far as trying to sleep while on the go and surely, they will need all the help they can get. If you are among them and are looking for an accessory to help you out, the Flighsleep should be something useful and handy to bring along. FlightSleep is a small, semi-soft platform designed to support the head and chin in a slightly forward position while sleeping or resting in a seated position. Even in close quarters seat-mates are not inconvenienced or crowded. Initial users report that the small size of the compact device makes it very convenient to deploy in today's challengingly tight seating on airplanes. It is made of a compact design and is about the size of a tennis ball in a bag, making it easy to doze off when needed. You can check them out at this link. - Walk More, Sleep Better - 2011-03-20 16:39:09-04
Here is another new tip for you. If you are among the many sleep deprived people, more walking may be able to help. This was what Canadian Sleep Expert Douglas Bradley suggested after linking sitting to sleep apnea. Apparently, sitting gathers fluids in a person's legs, , which then moves to your neck when you lie down at night. When your muscles relax, your airway can get sucked shut “like a wet straw.” Especially for the people who are in the office or spend most of their time sprawled and supposedly relaxing, getting up and walking a few steps may help improve your sleep apnea issues. - Japanese Spokesman urged to get some Sleep - 2011-03-21 15:12:49-04
While a lot of people don't really have the luxury of sleep over in the disaster-hit Japan, there is one person being urged to get some shuteye. He is no other than Japanese Spokesman Yukio Edano, a tireless workhorse, relaying every development via Twitter since tragedy came to Japan. Edano's exhaustion became a cause for concern among many of Japan's Twitter users who started the hashtag #Edano_Nero (Nero translates to "go to sleep" in Japanese). He is one of the many heroes trying to inform people and perhaps the world on the devastation but just like anyone else, rest is a need. And based on reports, it looks like Edano has taken the call to get some sleep for now. Sleep well "Jack Bauer of Japan" you need it!
