Skin care - Skin care in winters

Posted: 22 Oct 2010 10:41 PM PDT

By Prathima,

Ah!...the cool winter climate...a time when you snuggle cosily among soft warm rugs with a cup of hot coffee..While we eagerly look forward to a cool climate after a hot weather, we also dread the arrival of winter. The cool weather can be harsh on our delicate skin stripping it of moisture.

But like they say 'Prevention is better than cure', right? So start tending to your skin before the onset of winter.

Winter checklist /Winter skin care tips

1.

Skin Hydration

Keep skin hydrated by drinking plenty of clean water. You may not feel thirsty as you do in summer but nevertheless your body requires sufficient water to keep itself hydrated. It is important to feed skin with moisture inside out.

Cut down on tea or coffee.

Hot water bath

Avoid bathing in very hot water as this would strip skin of its natural oils. Instead bathe in warm water to open up the pores and cleanse the skin well.

After shower

- After a shower, dab skin with a towel allowing just a little water to stay on your skin. Then rub in your favourite body lotion or exotic body butters onto your damp skin. This helps to trap a little moisture in your skin leaving it soft & supple throughout the day.

Facial skin care

The same goes for your facial skin too. Dab on a nourishing moisturizer onto damp skin and massage gently. Never pull the skin roughly but use firm upward strokes on cheeks, horizontal movement on forehead, chin & upper lip.

Skin care dry skin

People with very dry skin can massage your body with coconut or almond oil onto damp skin after bath. This can also reduce itching due to dryness. For extra moisture, rub in oil before and after bathing.

Night cream

Each night splash face and neck with warm water and cleansing milk. Massage face gently with upward and outward movements. Wash off with cotton dipped in warm water and follow it up with a night cream.

Light moisturizer

Use a light moisturiser around the eyes as heavy ones can cause puffiness.

Facial scrub in winters

Use a facial scrub with tiny grains once a week. For this, apply cleansing milk and then apply the scrub gently. Do not rub vigorously. Wash off with warm water. This will help you rid of flaky skin.

Glowing skin

Consuming few teaspoons of ghee or butter will give your skin that extra glow!

Autumn Rush - Maybelline colorsensational Lipstick (Product review /Swatches)

Posted: 22 Oct 2010 07:31 AM PDT

                                                   Maybelline lipstick review

Please welcome Maybelline color sensational Lipsticks .They have been talk of the town since months and now I know why they rock. The color doesn't wash me out and they are available in so many shades that chances of you not getting your desired shades is quite less.

Look at the packaging below.Isn't it super duper cute :D. I can easily identify the color of the lipstick through the cap .

It has creamy texture an can be paired with any gloss. With no shimmer I am wearing it every day.
and before I go ahead and talk about other things lets talk about the price of the Maybelline color sensational first. PRICE OF MAYBELLINE COLORSENSATION IS RS 299..
Isn't the price amazing??

I bought Autumn Rush 265 which goes well with my complexion .As the lipstick is quiet creamy in texture I think it will melt away in summers.

It shows up as a good "my lips but better" He He..This I learnt  from Ki :D :D..If I apply it with stronger hand then it gives a sudden pop of colour. It doesn't have a very good staying power but compare to the price it is not bad.

It doesn't have any irritating smell and looking at this I think this one will look great on those who  are fond of nude and baby pink lipsticks.

They don't dry my lips  and when I apply it I feel as if I am wearing a lip balm.

I do have some dislikes  of the products which are as follows:-

1. It tastes like clay but I am ok with it.

2. Staying power is not that great

Worth a buy - Yes, if you are looking for some inexpensive pigmented lipstick which are not shimmery then give them a try but do remember that they don't have good staying power.

Rating - 3.5/5

Soft Skin - Home made skin softener and body glow oil (Do it Yourself)

Posted: 22 Oct 2010 03:17 AM PDT

                                                         Soft skin oil (DIY)

We all think 24/7 even when you will be reading this post there must be something else which will be going in your mind..Tell me if this is not true :D. A relaxing oil massage is something which we all look for and if we get this at the convenience of our home with some additional benefits then there is nothing like it.

After my Aroma pedicure I thought of making this oil again which I used before my marriage to soften skin and bring the glow to my skin.Regular massage of this oil not only makes your skin soft but relaxes your body as well.

I read about this oil in Nirogdham which is a popular magazine of herbal remedies. As the oil is pretty easy to make I immediately tried it and with in one month result was apparent. If you use this oil for whole  winter then it will make your skin fairer.

So now with winters knocking at the door its time to make this skin softening oil

Ingredients required :-

1/2 cup coconut oil
1/ 2aloevera lead
2tsp amla powder
2 tsp shikakai powder
any essential oil of your choice.(optional)

Step 1 - I got this  Amla and Shikakai packet. These are easily available in supermarkets nowadays. You can use powder also.

As I didn't get shikakai powder here I powdered it  in the mixer and mixed both the ingredients together.

Step2 - You have to take aloe vera leaf and scoop out the gel.To know how to take out aloe vera gel from the leaf click here.If you are really lethargic which I am not today  then you can just cut the whole leaf  with its peel on and cut it into pieces.

Alo vera is the ingredient which is going to make the skin soft

Step3 -Take a pan and add coconut oil in it and let it simmer for one minute.(You have to use extra virgin coconut oil.You can use the one which we use in cooking.I am using Patanjali coconut oil .

Step4 - Now add the shikakai and amla powder in it.

Step5 - After one minutes add aloe vera gel in it.

Step 6 - Bring 2-3 boils in the oil and switch off the gas.

Let it cool down for a while.Filter the oil with the help of a sieve and pour it into a clean bottle.Your natural skin softener is ready to be used.
Massage the oil half an hour before taking bath. You can do this on weekends as well and wash it off with luke warm water.Use mild soap or shower gel in removing the oil.

When you are using the oil make sure you cover your hand, feet as well. If you can ask some maid of yours to massage it on your body for 15- 20 minutes then there is nothing like it.

Enjoy the benefits of herbal beauty remedies with this oil  and let your skin glow.
