Rose water - Ayur rose water (Product review and more)

Posted: 03 Nov 2010 12:14 AM PDT

  By Adivaah,

Organic rose water - Rose water  History

There are about 150 species of wild roses, mostly shrubs and climbers, which occur wild in the northern hemisphere.

Roses were among the first plants (if not THE first plant) that were grown for beauty's sake alone, a practice that flourished in Asia and the Middle East long before it had ever been heard of in Europe. Roses adorned the patios and pleasure gardens of palaces, serving as a supreme image of female virtues.

The Rose has become synonymous with love, an attribute that it held since ancient times. The Greeks already regarded Roses as sacred to Venus, and some say that it sprang from the tears of the Goddess as they mingled with the blood of her lover Adonis, while he lay dying.

As the case may be, it is universally agreed that the rose is sacred to the Goddess of Love. Since earliest times Arabic perfumers knew the secrets of this beautiful flower and incorporated its scent into perfumes and cosmetics.

A story claims that rose oil was discovered accidentally - in a most romantic fashion of course: In preparation for a royal wedding, the waterways that meandered through the palace gardens had been filled with rose petals. Engulfed by the heavenly scent, the couple floated through this bed of roses in their barge, when they suddenly noticed a layer of oil on the water - the heat of the midday sun had helped to extract the oils naturally and thus the essential oil of roses was discovered.

The Ladies of those ancient days valued the heady, warm, sweetly-spiced scent of Roses no less than modern women do. Then as now, this sensual aroma is universally believed to inspire love, a power that even Cleopatra had to qualms to employ in her endeavour to seduce Mark Antony. Filling her bedroom with a 2 feet carpet of rose petals, Mark Antony evidently never stood a chance.

Once this

Dabur Gulabari Face Freshner

came into the market, I was desperate to get this one because it's a spray bottle that can be used at home as well as can be carried along with you anywhere! But this freshener proved out to be paltry product! .It itched a lot and  led to patchy red skin! This could be because my skin is dry to combination type.So I thought I should try some other brand, so went to nearest supermarket and got the Ayur Rose water before trying their spray freshner called Ayur Aromaz and  I'm quite happy with this product.

What does Ayur claim about the product?   Though the bottle doesn't have any claims printed on it, I searched their website and  found this claim.

Its long lasting skin freshening effect softens coarse skin, pores and helps to protect the skin from irritation, heat and rashes. It's an excellent toner that can be used whenever you feel like.

Price of Ayur rose water -  Rs.30 INR for 200ML

Pros of the Rose water:

•    It certainly is a mild scented rose water which has worked well for my dry to combination skin.

•    Removes oil and  dirt easily when wiped with damn cotton with rose water.

•    The rose water smells very natural and not like a preservative added rose water.

•    Price is quite decent for the results it has shown.

•    It doesn't irritate or sting my eyes.

•    This can be used to mix your face packs or can be used to set rose water ice cubes. These cubes can be delicately rubbed on your face after coming from office or after having a day long shopping and  it will give you a fresh and relaxed feeling.

•    A little goes a long way! You could replace the contents into a spray bottle to avoid wasting the product.

Cons of the Ayur Rose water

•    Though it smells very natural I'm still unhappy about the ingredients list not mentioned.

•    The packaging is very bad, it's transparent plastic bottle, and it looks like one of those cough syrup bottles and  it is not leak proof so I'm planning to get a spray bottle from a nearest shop and  transfer the contents.

Will I repurchase it? Yes! Definitely! I have already finished this bottle!

5 ways to reuse wrong lipstick shade

Posted: 02 Nov 2010 10:53 PM PDT

We all are always in search for our best red lipstick or best lipstick shade but finding the right lipstick is always tricky. When we buy them it always comes across as the perfect colour but when we actually use it we may not find it that interesting.

I have bought  wrong lipstick shades many times and I think this is because of artificially flattering lights in the department store. We buy them at such high prices and when they don't work it certainly hurts.

Tricks to re-use lipstick

1.

     1. .Mixing lipstick shades-   By layering the wrong lipstick shade with another gives a whole new look .Trick is to fist apply the base layer with your favourite lipstick or the best lipstick and then follow it by a thin layer of the wrong lipstick colour. Both lipstick when mixed together will give you a complete new shade and it some time gives even look better than the both.

3.  2.    Lip gloss – If you find your lipstick shade too dark then you can lighten it up mixing it with some petroleum jelly. So you have a new lip gloss ready with a wrong lipstick shade.Use a cotton swab to mix the lipstick.

OK you don't want much hassle then go ahead and apply a thin layer of the lip gloss and  then the lipstick.Just experiment a bit and you may find a lipstick shade which no one has.

4.     3.   Lipstick as Blush – Wrong lipstick shade on the cheeks can be your creamy blush as well ofcourse the lipstick shade should be suitable and not some dark chocolaty colour.

5.      4  Lipstick as eyeshadow – Wrong lipstick shades some time works as eye shadows too.You just have to use it lightly .Lipstick colours such as plum or bronze goes well as eye shadows but certainly not red.
5 Giving the lipstick back Few of my friends who are living abroad told me that some drug store or cosmetic counters so take back the lipstick but when I tried in India it didn't work for me.First of all it was little embarrassing to ask them to replace the lipstick because it was already used and then the sales people do give you that frustrating look so I avoid this.

Finding the right lipstick shade

I know have learnt my lesson and therefore I have started looking at the lipstick shade in various lights.Works for me  and might work for you as well .

Do you have any tips to share on this?

Makeup on eyes this Diwali (Easy Diwali makeup)

Posted: 02 Nov 2010 05:41 AM PDT

Guest post by Rashmi,

Rashmi is a dear blogger friend who is a total MAC addict. I am sure she is quiet an expensive wife :D. A wonderful person by heart, her reviews are honest and thats make me adore her. Here goes her post :)

Lets play some makeup makeup this Diwali .. you apply gold eyeshadow and me silver WOWOWOW

No WAYS ... ditch golds and silver this season and play with colors , I know Diwali is here , but we can always create a
holi mood .. what say ??

I am writing this , but to tell you my hands still slips on gold eyeshadows reasons ??
they are EASIER to play and co-ordinate , its not too long ago that i startrd experimenting with colors,I am using Blue eyeshadow here , but thats not THE BEST combo for my eye color , ... howevermost of us have black eyes or say black brown eyes , so keeping that in mind i used this color ,and while I was doing this look the background music was from KURBAAN ..hmmmmmmm
Okay so to start of with , I applied my base

Face - primer - Chambor  foundation - Climnique superbalanced

Eye make up  -
Base - Painterely paint pot by MAC all over the lid.

Applied Colorbar's ELECTRA eyeliner along upper lash line and smudged

Applied Clarins mono eyeshadow in IRIS BLUE all over the lid and little above the crease
Softened the crease with powder foundation

Applied MUFE Mascara on waterline i applied same blue eyeliner , however you can use black kajal

Cheeks - I applied Maybelline Mousse Blush in Peach  Satin as base and then I applied Colorbar's Powder Blush in Peachy Rose

The idea of the Tutorial was ... using a single color with a colored eyeliner , black and browns are the obvious choices for the eyeliners.

but you see how much difference does a colorful eyeliner make

If you are finding blue too harsh , you can use green eyeshaow or purple , they looks awesome

My pick for colorful eyeliners - Bourjoise makes some very beautiful eyeliners , maybelline , lakme and colorbar too have some nice colorful range

My pick for Blue Eyeshadow is - MAC's Deep Truth , Clarins's Iris Blue , Inglot has some nice Blue shades , Clinique also have some realy beautiful blue eyeshadow

my pick for peach lipstick - MAC's Vegas volt or sea sheer , Chambor's - CORAL , Maybelline's Peachy Scene

My pick for Peach Blush - MAC's Springsheen , MUFE HD Blush in # 6 , Colorbar's Peachy Rose , Chambor's Glitzy orange

Hope you enjoyed the tutorial , if you like to see some more combo's do let me know

Love

RASHMI
