Duties Summary:
Independently provide public health nursing care, treatment and educational services to a wide variety of groups within an assigned geographic area. Responsibility covers a wide range of case complexities and involve case finding; establishing case priorities based on the nursing needs of the individual and/or family; the organization and management of specialty clinics; establishing and implementing a nursing care plan for each patient and/or family visited; and the direction of nursing assistants and lower level nurses, as assigned; and perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Applicants must meet all the requirements for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. Your possession of the required amount of experience will not in itself be accepted as proof of qualification for the position. Overall paid or unpaid experience must be of such scope and responsibility as to conclusively demonstrate that you have the ability to perform the duties of the position. Note: Your calculation of experience must be based on full-time, 40-hour work weeks. Part-time experience must be pro-rated. Example: Twelve months of experience at 20 hours/week is equivalent to six months of experience, not one year. Also, hours worked in excess of 40 hours/week will not be credited. Example: Twelve months of experience at 60 hours/week is equivalent to one year of experience, not one and a half years.
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:

Education: Applicants must meet one of the requirements specified below:
A. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing which included in its curriculum course work that provided public health nursing principles and practices.
B. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing supplemented by completion of an accredited university curriculum which included course work that provided public health nursing principles and practices for which a certificate was awarded.
C. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing plus two years of professional Public Health Nursing work experience.

Experience: One and one-half years of Public Health nursing experience of which one year of experience was comparable to the Registered Nurse III (Public Health) in State Service.
The Registered Nurse III (Public Health) in State service carry the full caseload of an assigned geographic area providing public health nursing care treatment and educational services which involves establishing case priorities developing and implementing nursing care plans for patients and/or families visited and organizing and conducting established clinics; and perform other related duties as assigned.

Substitutions Allowed: A master’s degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing may be substituted for one year of experience.

License:
A. License to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Hawaii.
B. A valid driver's license is required for some positions. For those positions requiring a driver's license, you must possess a valid driver's license at the time of appointment. The immediate vacancy has this requirement.

General DHS Qualifications include:

* Graduate of accredited school of nursing (RN, BSN or MSN) with a current state license.
* Several years of experience working in long-term care such as assisted living or skilled nursing
* Knowledge and experience working with residents with Alzheimer's disease and/or related dementia, highly desirable.
* Several years of experience supervising others to include: hiring, coaching and terminating associates, managing schedules, setting performance expectations, promoting collaboration and teamwork .
